From White to Waves: Giving My Honeymoon Bikini a Blue Makeover

Okay, so confession time: I had this adorable white and blue bikini from Abercrombie. I got it for my honeymoon last year, loved the fit, super comfy, you know the deal. But… chlorine happened. Now it’s rocking this lovely chlorine discoloration and honestly? White just isn’t my vibe lately. So, what’s a girl to do? Dye it blue, duh!

I’m not one to just throw things away especially when they fit well, and this swimsuit felt like it had a lot of life left. Upcycling instead of buying new things is a great way to stay sustainable, and save money.

The Great Dye Hunt (and Victory!)

Finding the right dye felt like a *quest*. I finally settled on this bright, vibrant cobalt called sapphire blue. Fingers crossed, this will be the answer! It’s made for synthetic fabrics, perfect since my bikini is 100% polyester. I like to get good use out of all my clothes, especially with my trendy aesthetic.

Diving In: Dyeing 101 (My Way)

Now, I’m not a professional dyer by any means. I followed the instructions on the bottle, pretty much. But here’s the Morgan version:

  • The Brew: One whole bottle of dye, a teaspoon of dish soap (because why not?), and enough water to let my bikini swim freely. The bottle said 3 gallons, but, like, who measures?
  • Boil, Boil, Toil, and… Soak: I brought the water to a boil on the stove (carefully!), then moved it to the sink. I let the bikini soak for almost an hour, giving it a little stir with tongs every so often to make sure the dye was getting *everywhere*.

This whole process felt like a bit of a science experiment, which I secretly loved. Plus, the anticipation was killing me!

The Big Reveal (Spoiler: I’m Obsessed!)

I was seriously so happy with how the color turned out! Rinsed it with warm water first, then cold until it ran clear. Threw it in the wash on warm with an old towel (trust me, you don’t want blue explosions in your laundry).

Honestly? Obsessed. It’s such a fun, vibrant shade of blue!

Why This Matters (More Than Just a Blue Bikini)

Okay, so it’s just a swimsuit, right? Wrong! This little project means a lot more to me.

  • Sustainability: Giving something I already owned a new life feels good. I’m trying to be more conscious of my consumption and reducing waste.
  • Self-Expression: Fashion is all about expressing yourself! And right now, I’m really feeling this blue vibe.
  • Budget-Friendly: Let’s be real, buying a new swimsuit can be expensive. This was a super affordable way to revamp something I already had.

The Verdict: Blue is the New White

You can still see the original pattern a bit, which I actually love. It gives it a little something extra. But the best part? I know I’m going to get so much more wear out of this bikini now. It’s like a brand new suit, but with a story.

I used to think upcycling was daunting, but it’s so fun and easy. Plus, you have a unique piece of clothing that no one else will have.

Rock Your Own Look

Here are some tips for when you’re thinking about your own upcycling project!

  • Have a direction! Knowing what style you are going for will help.
  • Don’t be afraid to try new things! You might be surprised with the results.
  • Be patient! Dying and upcycling can be a lengthy process, but it’s worth it.

Making a Splash

So, yeah, I dyed a bikini. But it was more than that. It was about breathing new life into something old, expressing myself, and being a little kinder to the planet. And honestly? I feel like I can do anything. Who knows what I’ll dye next! I feel so creative that I might start drawing or something. I love the trendy aesthetic of art, and I think I have a good eye for it.

Maybe I’ll share that experience with you all too!

Let’s dye this swimsuit blue.I got this for my honeymoon last year. It’s this cute, like, white and blue pattern bikini from Abercrombie.I really like how it fits, really comfy. But it has like some chlorine discoloration. AndI just don’t find myself reaching for a white bikini. So I’m gonna dye it blue.So let’s go get some dye.It was kind of hard to pick a color, but I ended up going with this bright cobaltthat was called sapphire blue. It’s not the same date, but we’re about to actually dye this swimsuit. Now.This is the one for synthetic fabric. And my swimsuit is 100% polyester. So I think this is the right one.I basically just followed the instructionson the back of the bottle, added a whole bottle of dye,a teaspoon of dish soap, and thenenough water to where my fabric could move around. It calls for 3gal.I didn’t measure.I boiled it on the stoveand then moved it over to the sink.I let mine soak for right at an hourand I moved it around with these tongsevery now and thento make sure that the dye got to all the fabric. And I was so happy with the color. You rinse it out with warm water at first, and then you move to cold until the water runs clear. And then it says to wash on warm with an old towel. So that’s what I did.I honestly love how this turned out.It is such a fun shade of blue.I really like this colorat the moment. You can still seethe pattern a bit from the original swimsuit, which I don’t mind at all.I just know I’m gonna get so much morewear out of it now,and this was just an easy way to change somethingI already had.
