Alright, y’all, Pastor Myke here, and let me tell you, I’m about to drop some sewing knowledge on you that’s so easy, even *I* can do it. And if you know me, you know that’s saying something. We’re making what I affectionately call the “Uncle Elroy” bandeau top. Don’t ask me why I call it that, it just *is*.
Now, before you start thinking this is some complicated, Martha Stewart-level project, lemme stop you right there. This thing is *three* pieces. That’s it! And they’re all the same shape, just different sizes. We’re talkin’ simplicity, baby!
What You’ll Need
First things first, you gotta get yourself some four-way stretch spandex. This is crucial, people. We need that give, that wiggle room. Think of it like trying to squeeze into your favorite jeans after Thanksgiving dinner – you need that stretch!
- The Fabric: Four-way stretch spandex (your favorite color, of course!)
- Your Sewing Machine: I call mine “The Surgeon,” because, well, she’s a lifesaver. More on that story later.
- Scissors: For cuttin’ and choppin’.
- Thread: Matching your fabric, unless you’re feeling particularly rebellious.
Sizing Up the Situation
Okay, so you’ve got your spandex. Now, you’re gonna need three pieces: a long square (we’ll call him “Big Boy”), a medium square (“Medium Boy”), and a skinny rectangle (“Skinny Boy”). Think of it like Goldilocks and the Three Bears, but with fabric.
Now, I’m not gonna give you exact measurements, because everyone’s built different. You gotta eyeball it, use your intuition. But here’s the general idea:
- Big Boy: This is the main part of the top. Make it wide enough to cover your chest, and long enough to wrap around comfortably.
- Medium Boy: This will be the lining. Make it a bit smaller than Big Boy.
- Skinny Boy: This is for the straps. Make it long enough to tie around your neck.
Sewing It All Together
Alright, let’s get down to business. Take Big Boy, fold it in half, pretty sides facing each other. Now, sew that sucker together. I’m using “The Surgeon,” and let me tell you a little story about her. I got this machine because the dude who did my surgery (don’t ask) gave me his credit card! What an idiot! I went straight to Joanne’s and ran that motherfucker up. No regrets.
Now, do the same with Medium Boy and Skinny Boy. You should have three tubes. Flip all those pieces right side out.
Time to Assemble
Cut Big Boy in half. Now, take one half of Big Boy, and Medium Boy, line ’em up, and sew ’em together, leaving a little space at the top. Make sure the seam is on the left side. I’m gonna start to sew, and I’m gonna reverse, and then I’m gonna sew the rest of it. But I am gonna stretch it as I sew it with a little booty hole. And then I’m gonna drink that other one through the hole. Do the same thing with the reverse stitch or else it’s gonna become unraveled. Which I feel like I’m slowly but surely also becoming unraveled.
Spaghetti Straps and Sweet Dreams
Now, we need to make the tube that the spaghetti straps goes through, which makes my mouth water. I want a glass of chocolate milk and a plate of spaghetti. So easy to do. Take Skinny Boy, fold it in half, sew it together, and flip it right side out. This is your strap. Thread it through the little space you left at the top of the top. Tie it up, and boom! You’ve got an “Uncle Elroy” bandeau top!
Why This Top Rocks
- It’s easy: Like, seriously easy. Even if you’re a sewing newbie, you can handle this.
- It’s versatile: Dress it up, dress it down. Wear it to the beach, wear it to a party. The possibilities are endless!
- It’s comfy: That four-way stretch spandex is like a hug for your boobs.
- It’s cheap: Let’s be real, fabric is way cheaper than buying a new top.
- It’s customizable: Pick your favorite color, add some embellishments, make it your own!
Final Thoughts
So there you have it, folks! The “Uncle Elroy” bandeau top, brought to you by yours truly. Now go forth and sew! And remember, don’t take life too seriously. Unless it’s sewing, you need that to be tight.
